With Love

At Alcott today, poems were full of love!

The third graders read from Arnold Adoff's Love Letters and wrote epistle poems (poems in the form of a letter) to give away as Valentines. I'm sure they will most defiinitely be enjoyed by their lucky recipients.

6th graders and 8th graders listened to two poems by Sonia Sanchez, A Poem for Jesse and To P.J. and wrote poems addressed to people whom they love or are inspired by; poems to friends, family members, their own selves...

6th grade

a poem for Maya

your smile like
a newly bloomed
flower
your touch like
clouds
rubbing my face
My LOVE FOR YOU
is more than
GOD
Loves the whole
wide world.

-Stephanie T.

brown eyes brown hair
features of my self. my tall legs
can't jump over a trash can but
I can float over the
clouds over the horizon
by sunset time. I am athletic
I am smart I am me.

- Carlos M.

A poem to grandma

your cookies are like
butter melting on my tongue
gets hot when I swallow it
and drink your home made lemonade.

- Anthony T.

8th grade

Dear Giovanni

Every noise the world makes
is a song of you.
The smile you share
is like when you stick your
head out the car window
on the high way the joy
you give is like the joy
on a kids face when the
Jack pops from the box.

- Jessica M.

A Poem to T-bone and Razor my fish

Floating around in a tank
eating the flakes and chasing
one another around the tank
here's a Joke to my fish
there are 2 fish in a tank
one turns to the other and
said how do you drive this
thing?

- Amir B.
